Another Book Review

I have been doing alot of reading lately, and find that books by Janette Oke, are wholesome and have complete focus on Elohim. {Of course in her books, she uses God and Jesus... But I'm okay with that.} They are all stories of women who have either lost their relationship with Elohim and are trying to gain it back. Or women who don't believe in Him at all and by the end of the story learn to follow Him with all their heart.

Here are just a few of her titles that I have read recently...

Can you give me the titles of any books that you enjoy? I would much appreciate it! I highly recommend her books, because I am a...

Tichels I am fond of... : )

Recently, I have been browsing for Tichel styles that I like. First, let me just say that I'm still not sure whether or not I'm going to start covering full-time. {I can't seem to make them not slip off.} ;) I still have to pray about that and work it out with YHWH. So here are some pictures of different varieties of Tichels that I'm interested in.

Does anyone know how I can keep them from slipping? I would love to hear your advice!! ; ) Thank you... Also, which picture is your favorite?

Prayer Request

I would like to ask all of you reading this to please pray for me... When I woke up this morning, I was in severe pain and felt nauseous. I still have the same symptoms, but now on top of all of that, I am very cold... Mom checked me and said that I don't have a fever, but just the same I would so much appreciate your prayers. Thank you....

Book Review & Apologies

First of all, I would like to apologize for not posting the rest of my Tzniut Challenge pictures... I did finish the challenge, and have decided to wear skirts full time now! : ) But I'm still not sure about covering full-time... Yahweh hasn't convicted me of that yet. And now onto the book review! : )

On Shabbat evening, just before bed I wanted to read something, but I didn't have any books from the library. So I picked up this book called "Tirzah." I had started to read it last year, but thought it was very boring... 8) Anyways, I decided I would give it another try, and after I got through the first chapter {which was the boring part} it started to get really interesting! : ) Now, I'm not going to give away the whole story.... But just to peak your interest : ) I'll tell you a little more about it.
The setting is in Egypt, at the time that Moses was asking Pharaoh to let the Jewish slaves go. And to make a long story short Tirzah {the girl on the cover} and her family are journeying to the Promised Land... But along the way there are other people traveling with them that believe Moses is not a very good leader, and they threaten to stone him and other things. But in order to find out what the rest of the story is about, you'll just have to read it yourself! : )

Happy Hanukkah!!

Happy Hanukkah everyone!! The Menorah above {in Hebrew} says "Yeshua" {Jesus}.... And as he is the light of the world, I thought this picture was perfect because Hanukkah is the festival of lights! Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, {it lasts for eight days}. Here is a little something my mom put together on this subject.

*seeing it is Elohim who said, "Light will shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of Elohim in the face of Yeshua the Messiah.* 2nd Corinthians 4:6

*Again, therefore, Yeshua spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."* John 8:12

 What is a Shabbat Shalom (Sabbath Peace) LINKY?
Well, in short it is a bunch of Sabbath keepers from all over the U.S.(maybe someday even farther reaching than that) who link together through a LINKY TOOL to share Scriptures, worship music, devotions, studies, encouraging articles, special blessings, how and where they will be glorifying our Creator or ways they have found to keep the 7th Day Sabbath set apart.

We would love for you to join in and share! Here's how:

If you are new to observing Shabbat on the seventh day, I pray that the Ruach (Holy Spirit) will give you peace and lead your family. The Our Father Prayer

Shabbat Shalom
Over the past month Mom, Justice, and I have been learning the Avinu Prayer.... So far, we are all doing really well! : )

Lord\'s Prayer in Hebrew

Here is the English transliteration link, it has really helped us pronounce the Hebrew words correctly. This video also helped us memorize it: {We haven't completely memorized the whole thing yet, but were on the last line.... So it won't be long!!} =D

And here is the Avinu Prayer in English:

9 "This, then, is the way you should pray: `Our Father who is in the heavens, let Your Name be set-apart, 10 let Your reign come, let Your desire be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 `Give us today our daily bread. 12 `And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 `And do not lead us into trial, 13 but deliver us from the wicked one – because Yours is the reign and the power and the esteem, forever. Amein."
Matthew 6:9-13

Does anyone else read Hebrew? If so please leave a comment, and share with us your experience... Thank you, and SHABBAT SHALOM from our home to yours!! : )

What can man do to me?

I thought this song was very pretty the first time I heard it. Please tell me what you think in the comments section... Thanks for listening!! : ) {I promise that a longer post will be coming soon!}

Just a thought....

Here is a verse I found on the sidebar of my blog today, and just thought I would share, so...
  "But יהוה said to Shemuʼĕl, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him, for not as man sees, for man looks at the eyes, but יהוה looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7

A Young Maiden's Daybook- Part 9

I haven't been participating in this lately, due to lack of time... But hopefully since our schedule is now somewhat straitened out I will try to be more on top of things. {gee, i wonder how long that will last! lol... : D} Anyways:
 Today… Yom Sheini, (Nov 22, 2010)

Outside my window…The sun is coming up, and it's shining in my eyes... {which makes it very hard to type by the way.}

I am thinking… About starting to cover my hair... Hmmm.

I am thankful for… A warm house when it is really cold. *happy sigh*

I am wearing… My pj's...

I am reading… "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Otto H. Frank

I am creating… Ummm, let me think... *scratches head* I have absolutely no idea! lol...: )

One of my favorite things… Finding new comments to be published when I check my blog...
{hint, hint} : )

For education this week… We are learning the rest of the "Avinu Prayer"

A keeper at home skill I am still using/learning … How to do a load of laundry without accidentally letting a red sock slip in there. {which of course means that we have pink socks and underwear.}

A spiritual lesson I’m learning… Modesty {and head coverings}

A godly character trait I plan to work on… Joy

Scripture I am memorizing...
"Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying."
Romans 12:12

I am praying for… YHWH's guidance through my life.

For the rest of the week… School, cooking, cleaning, reading, and other little tasks.

A picture I’d like to share…
 {a picture of me trying to figure out how to tie a tichel... how did i do?}
thanks for reading! <3
{p.s.- how do you like my new background?}

What's for dessert?

 This weekend for our Shabbat dessert, my dad requested that I make chocolate cake with vanilla frosting... So, I decided to share the recipe with you

Chocolate Cake:
2 c. Flour
2/3 c. Cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. Baking Soda
1/4 tsp. Baking Powder
1 2/3 c. Sugar
4 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 c. Mayonnaise
1 1/3 c. Water

MIX all ingredients together, using a mixer. Bake in 2 {9 inch} round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes.

Vanilla Frosting:
3 c. Powdered Sugar
1/4 c. Shortening {butter}
1/4 c. Water
2 tsp. Vanilla

STIR together 1 cup of the sugar, shortening and vanilla. Add remaining sugar and water alternately. Beat until smooth. Frost cooled cake.

Enjoy... And Shabbat Shalom!! : )
We decided it would be fun to make individual serving cakes, here are the results:

11/15/10

Busy, busy, busy!

 Busy Day Cake
  • 8 tablespoons butter (1 stick), at room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter a 9x9 inch pan, set aside.
Beat the butter and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating to incorporate after each addition. Scrape down sides of bowl. Add the flour in 3 parts, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with flour. Make sure each addition is incorporated before adding next. Add the salt, vanilla, baking powder, and nutmeg and mix until combined.
Spread the batter in the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Bake until top is golden and tester inserted in center comes out clean, about 40 minutes. {We added cocoa powder to ours, but that is completely optional}

I hope you enjoy this cake as much as we do!
