The Modesty Challenge

Okay, were on the subject of clothing here. There aren't very many boys out there that have pure minds when they look at immodest women. (and immodest girls) Are there? It even starts with little boys! The way they think and the way men think about the immodest women they see, isn't very different. Here is a video I found on Sowers of Hope that I thought was appropriate... (Although, like the women over there mentioned, the music playing at the beginning, I do not approve of.)

So after watching that- finding out what guys really think about the way we dress- does it make you think differently about what you put on, and walk out of the house wearing? It sure made me think differently!

So, I have decided to start a Challenge. This challenge will be to wear only things that are appropriate and modest. Before you put an item of clothing on, ask yourself, 'Does this glorify YHWH?' and 'Will it make not only my brothers in the Messiah, but also the non-believing guys stumble?'
I also think it would be good to remember this scripture verse throughout the week, to remind ourselves of what Elohim wants us to dress like.

"In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety; not just with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing;" 1 Timothy 2:9

"She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms." Proverbs 31:17

"She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple. Proverbs 31:22

"Strength and honour [are] her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. Proverbs 31:25

"Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth the LORD, she shall be praised." Proverbs 31:29-30

Other than posting pictures of your outfits everyday, that is the only guideline for this challenge. I'm curious whether my fellow blogger friends hold the same convictions I do when it comes to dress. If you'd like to participate, just leave a comment telling me so, along with your blog or website link. :) I hope to see some pictures! This challenge will start on April 13th, and end on April 20th. ;)

Modesty matters!

Modesty posts seemed to be popular lately, so I thought I might give my two cents about the matter. :) Here are a few pictures of what I think are modest skirts and shoes...

Modesty is very important, whichever way you look at it, our clothes describe our personality. So just for an example, if I went out in public wearing a mini skirt, a low cut shirt and heels like this...

People would get the impression that I am trying to attract some attention here. Hence the described outfit. But if I went out in public wearing a modest skirt (knee length or lower) and a loose, sleeved shirt with ballet flats or something like that, I'm sure everyone would gather that I was someone who cared about what I looked like, and how I conducted myself. Don't you think?

Modesty is as much an inward thing, as it is an outward thing. If we dress modestly, but our heart is not in it, what's the point? We need to check our hearts often, to make sure dressing modestly is not something we are doing just to make our parents happy! Do you agree? What is your idea of modesty? Please share with me your thoughts on this matter... Because I think, MODESTY MATTERS! :) Don't you?

Well, Shabbat is here again already! Can you believe how fast the days go by? I'd love to wish whoever reading this a very blessed Sabbath, with much joy and fellowship! As for our family, we will be camping with some friends of ours tomorrow night through the weekend.. That should be fun! :) (As long as the mosquitoes keep away from me...) *Mental note, take along some bug spray, and citronella candles* ;)

Tichels I am fond of... : )

Recently, I have been browsing for Tichel styles that I like. First, let me just say that I'm still not sure whether or not I'm going to start covering full-time. {I can't seem to make them not slip off.} ;) I still have to pray about that and work it out with YHWH. So here are some pictures of different varieties of Tichels that I'm interested in.

Does anyone know how I can keep them from slipping? I would love to hear your advice!! ; ) Thank you... Also, which picture is your favorite?

Swimming

A friend recently commented that she has problems finding modest swimwear for herself and daughters. So this post is to help not only her but, any other female that wants to be modest while she swims. Alot of people might ask what we wear swimming, since modesty is a big thing for us. Well, I (Autumn) wear a 1-piece bathing suit under swimming shorts and a t-shirt.  Mom wears a 1-piece bathing suit under a pair of kapris that come down to her ankles. This is definately not as modest as we would like to be, although I would rather not drown from the weight of something heavier.... Ha ha 8D.

Here is a website I found that sells modest swimwear, they look lightweight and comfortable, and they are cute too! (One of the suits from this site is pictured above)  Click on the link for the cute suits: http://www.modestswimwearsolutions.com/ We hope this post is helpful,  and not to late in the season to be useful!

"Have you ever wondered what a woman during the Revolutionary War might wear if she took a swim in the lake? What would a lady of the Civil War don when preparing for a splash in the water? Official clothes for swimming in haven’t been around for that long, really. Let’s take a look at the history of the garment that has sadly shrunk terribly over the years. Before the 1700′s, it was very common for people to swim in their underclothes. An actual outfit just for swimming in hadn’t been considered yet.
But in the 1700s and early 1800′s, women wore"...... Please click on the following link to read the rest of this post: (It's really good!) http://feelinfeminine.com/?p=4265

~A Poem~

Here is a poem that I thought was really beautiful, I hope you like it too!

"The death of feminism and liberality; the return of femininity and respect.”

The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender.

There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind.

There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined.

We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith.

We have enough greed; we need more goodness.

We have enough vanity; we need more virtue.

We have enough popularity; we need more purity.

-Margaret Nadauld-

~Challenge Wrap Up~

So, some of you may look at The Challenge that Autumn and I just took and say ~"what for?" or "so what"~
The challenge for us really had nothing to do with fashion , instead it was about making a conscious effort to be modest and feminine, because we can see in Scripture Yeshua cares about every aspect of our lives, even what we wear!
So, as  believers in Yeshua the Messiah we believe that Scripture is true, and that we need to do what it says to do, Right! So then,  how should we be Living, Acting,  and Dressing etc...? The Scriptures below show that you are never to young to set an example for others, even teaching others~ let's take a look:

1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.

1Ti 4:13 Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.

It is a challenge as young women to set the example of purity in the world today but, you are not walking alone, Yeshua is there to help you every step of the way!

I know that on a constant basis you are bombarded with worldly images of what the world says young men want ~ SOOOOO ~I thought I would add this article written by a young gentleman, to give you a BETTER perspective of what young gentleman want.~(and please take these words to heart)

"Giving Ear To Him: Don’t Be A Snare"

Hey, girls! I hope you’ll hear me out for a second. Do you have any idea how VERY important it is to a man that you dress modestly?

As guys even though we’re Believer we have the desire to see as much of a woman as we can, but that’s the problem! We’re Believers, and we’re desperately striving to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Most girls in our culture are incredibly immodest, and unfortunately many Believing girls just join right in. Immodesty is a plague!

When you wear low-cut tops or short shorts, we interpret that as you care more about yourselves then about causing a brother to stumble spiritually. Do you really think it’s easy for us to concentrate on purity at fellowship when the girls are wearing tops that show their stomach when they raise their hands during worship?

O.K. so lets take the time to think and pray, before putting on an article of clothing that could cause a brother in Yeshua(or any man) to stumble, let's be set apart from this world in ALL things!
Romans 12:2 Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Have a great day!

Day 7 of the Challenge

                                My Outfit:
Mom's Outfit:

Mom's final comment for the week-   I used to wear dresses all the time to work but, now that I am a stay at home mom, it just doesn't seem as practical when I'm scrubbing tubs and digging in the garden. Over all it was a good experience!
My final comment- I think I will wear skirts/dresses all the time once I accumulate a few more. The good thing is, I definitely felt more like a lady in a skirt. :)
Thanks so much for checking back!!!
